Endearing Girl Poncho

This was one of my quickest projects.Interstingly,when I first learnt how to crochet,my first ever project was a beautiful yellow and black poncho.I got full grades in craft work for that piece.
Coming to this particular piece-When I was knitting,Color-me-up for Aadi,a friend’s daughter had asked me in the cutest little girl voice,”Maushi,will you make one for me too?”[Maushi=aunt in marathi]
And I agreed.So,this little girl was turning 4 and I decided to make this poncho for her.

My twist to it was to use two strands,one of each color for the fringe!
Need I say,the poncho was suitably gushed at

Color-Me-Up Finished Finally

Remember how I wrote about my first solo knit project..when i say first solo,I mean,one where i dont have anyone picking up the dropped stitched..or sewing the seams etc..
I knit and ripped and ripped and knit and ripped yet again..And by the end of it..I just couldn’t wait to finish it..
I spent many hours each evening knitting fervently…until finally,I reached the cast off stage..sewed the sides and I was done.
It was then that I realised that I had made a mistake..in decreasing ..But,with a little presence of mind..I had followed the mistake symmterically.phew!
The finishing is not very neat..but I am so proud of myself that I didn’t give up halfway through.
Aadya wore it a couple times too..at home and to the park..and she loves it…Its me,who can see all the faults.:D

Toasty Toes

Aadya has this pair of machine knit socks that she loves.I have been wanting to knit socks for her for the longest time..but knitting on double pointed needles discourages me..So,I decided to try crochet.
And I started crochetting ,using the machine knit socks as the base.And then I got stuck,when I got to the heel of the sock.
I found this pattern and I continued from there.
The size is for one year old and..I loved how they turned out.
Its almost winter and a friend has a 1 year old..I sent it to her and she loved it.I don’t have a picture of the little toes..but here are the socks.

Made with- Panda Baby 4 ply yarn.

I have a weakness for long dangling earrings.And I have so many pairs,I have a tough time going through my jewellery drawer to find a pair.It is frustrating to find one ear-ring and not its pair. I was browsing a strip mall,when I saw,”Don’t get Mad,get Organised”..Aha..just the right thing for me.I just cannot remember the name of the store.So,in I went.And this store had all the organising solutions from laundrybaskets to bookshelves to hobby boxes..what nots.And I found these and finding earring is a piece of cake..Also,its a visual treat in itself.

Color Me up

Its been long since I put up anything on this blog.But that doesn’t mean that I have abandoned this blog.Its just that,I don’t have any more finished projects to display.
Also,we moved houses and we didn’t have phone or internet connection for more than 10 days after we moved in.I cannot tell you,how disoriented and “out-of-touch” with the world I felt.
Anyway,all’s well now.
Now for my current projects-
1) I am making more of those hats- for 2 friends.
2) I started knitting a sweater from my little girl.This will be the first sweater I finish all by myself.My speciality in knitting is blankets and scarves.
This is the yarn that I am using for it.

Isn’t it Beautiful?I have had it for 6 months now..Made a hat with it,tried crochet and finally started knitting.

City girl Hat

Some girls like handbags,some like jewellery.Me?I like Hats.I may pass a beautiful dress,without a second glance..but a nice hat,always catches my eye.I had been looking for a nice hat with a visor.So,when I came across this ( http://warmweatherknitting.blogspot.com/2006/01/city-girl-cap-pattern.html)City girl Hat pattern by Celeste,it was ‘just-what-I-needed’.

I was working on the Sunshine set,when I found this pattern and it was like an added motivation to complete that set ,quickly. The day I finished it,I just had to start on this Hat.The stitch used to make the cables,is Around the post double crochet-I had never used that stitch ever but,google and youtube came to my rescue.Once I got the hang of it,I had fun hooking!!

The best part was when DH came home from work,and I modelled it for him,he said,”Wow,you made it..looks very smart!” Job well done..:)

Sunshine Baby set

This beautiful Baby set is named Sunshine,because,it just fills your heart with so much sunshiny joy.

The pattern is from Leisure Arts Layettes Pattern Book.My best friend’s colleague at work is expecting and she wanted to gift her something hand-made.Thats when yours truly stepped in and the result is this beautiful bright baby set.They don’t know what they are having,yet,soI chose Baby Panda varigated yarn,which is white daintily speckled with all pastel colors-pink,blue,green,yellow,peach..I paired it with yellow.

The finished look is enhanced by the ribbed cuff.I was so in love with this set,I had a hard time,packing it to ship off.

The pictures arent very clear,sorry..This can be custom made in any color.

Watch this space for hats in the next few days.

Toddler hat

I loved this yarn.It is dyed,vintage yarn.The yarn itself is so beautiful,its made for knitting.

I knit this toddler hat.This is the right size for 12-18months. The lovely hues are accentuated by the dainty white crochet flowers.It can be made in bigger sizes too and different colors.

Care- treat it like your other woolens.Wash separately ,since the dyed yarn may bleed.

Glittery Gift Bags

Last weekend,when I was at the craft store,I something glittery caught my eye.I saw this lovely ball of shimmery pink yarn.And the first thought that came to my mind was pouches-gift bags,jewellery poches,or just plain coin purses.

I didn’t have any set pattern for this and just kept working instinctively.It took me about 3 hours,over 4 days and the end result is beautiful.
